My mom is getting locally-made “bath bombs” (one of her personal favorites), though #6 would be on the list if I weren’t in the wrong country.

Let’s face it, most mothers likely want the gift of time. If you can’t be present, then find something else that says: “Hey I spent a few hours thinking about you.”

So here’s my fallback gift: hand-made card. For bonus points, add a custom note on the inner-left hand side that actually contains references to things that happened since last Mother’s day. Say “thank you” for a few of them

BTW, I’m not kidding. I actually have card stock, stamps and markers, but honestly, construction paper molded by adult hands, would definitely be pretty cool. You can even get the kids in on it, make the cover and the back and give them each a surface on the inside.

Personally, I went through a year where I wrote a custom limerick in every birthday card and other where I pulled a famous quote relevant to the person. (I have a sizable family so I did about 20-24 cards each year). I even wrote a wedding card with a limerick. These cards were all well-received.
