Tipd Official Launch Today Plus New Features!

by Mike on November 18, 2008

The social media site Tip’d which I wrote about a while back is having the big official launch today.  I’m not sure what their last launch was but apparently this is the real deal.

I’ve been a big user of this site, mainly to help promote my new blog ABCs of Investing, but have also used it for general reading, since the quality of financial news posts has been quite good.  For any bloggers out there – according to my Google Analytics stats, the conversion ratio for referrals from Tip’d who sign up for the feed has been about 1% which is pretty good for social media.  SU on the other hand is only about 0.1%.

Lots of new features

  • Topple button (and formula for when a story gets toppled) now works as it should.
  • Private messaging
  • Users have 3 min’s to edit story after submission
  • 2 new categories created (business and entrepreneurship)
  • Tip It button now has its own server (which means it won’t slow down anything)
  • Published stories are straight HTML followed links, not redirects

The biggest improvement from my point of view is the straight HTML followed link to the original post.  Getting links to your posts is a key method for search engine traffic so this is an easy way to get a good link.

Anywho – feel free to check out the site and if you see any posts from Four Pillars or ABCs of Investing then make sure you tip it up!
