Will There Be A Second Stimulus Check In 2009?

by Mike on December 30, 2008

The question all Americans want to know is whether they will receive a late Christmas present this year in the form of a 2nd economic stimulus check.

In 2008 the government sent out economic stimulus checks to 130 million Americans with the idea that this money would be spent on consumer goods and services thereby stimulating the economy. While the program was considered a success by some – it didn’t prevent the economy from slowing down into a recession with the possibility of a depression.

President-elect Obama has proposed an economic stimulus package for 2009 which will total almost 1 trillion dollars – or about $3300 for every single American.

Second economic stimulus check

So far there has been no mention of any stimulus checks (like in 2008) however that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Nothing has been approved or finalized so it is still possible. If a second economic stimulus check is going to happen in 2009 it would be more likely to appear later in the year if it looks like the initial stimulus efforts are not doing enough to get the economy going.

Stimulus tax cuts

Obama has proposed stimulus tax cuts of $1,000 for couples and $500 for individuals. If this passes, it might be the closest thing to an actual stimulus check that most Americans will receive in 2009. This kind of stimulus is not as much fun as getting a large check all at once since it would take the form of reduced withholding taxes on regular paychecks. However, in the end – extra money is extra money.

Emergency Energy rebate

One of the more controversial initiatives is an energy relief plan to help Americans pay their energy bills this winter. The $1,000 emergency energy rebate would be given directly to Americans and would be paid for by windfall profit taxes on the large oil companies.
This particular initiative might not have much of a chance given that with the rapidly dropping price of oil, home heating costs are going to be a lot lower than initially predicted as recently as a couple of months ago.

Infrastructure stimulus spending

The Obama stimulus plan is calling for a huge investment in roads and bridges and mass transit improvements. This will total $850 billion over 2 years. This portion of the plan is the main driver behind the goal to create 2.5 million jobs over 2 years.

I’m thankful I had the privilage NOT to read every comment on here. I’d lose much more than an hour of my time. Come on, now, this forum is about stimulus checks, not about Ghandi or other religious matters. Let’s get back to the basics.

My opinion first is that perhaps a certain percentage should go to personal purchases and another portion should go for charities that the individual chooses and that will also benefit somebody else.

Now, what I want to know is that somebody who was just recently unemployed such as myself and who has been working a while and earning every dollar he received, will get what he deserves from the government. I’m not being selfish/self-centered here. I’m just asking where does somebody like me come into the picture?

Wow

Kind of feels like we are all barking at the wrong people, I agree that the bible has nothing to do with the topic, neither does abortion. I hope that we can all agree, we are being misled by the media picking and choosing what information they release to the public. In the future look for them to shut down the net or censor it to the point to where it is pointless to log on. The people harping on Welfare have been fed a false image of the people who really need it, which is sad. The people who are the targets of such venom can not even defend themselves, last I checked their was not internet connection under the highway bridges. As far as the country begin found on Christian beliefs, I would say check your history, because this country was founded on fooling the masses just like it is today. Fooled the Indians, fooled that whites into thinking slavery was good for the country. Beat any form of religion out of the Blacks. Our history is a bloody one but history tell us one thing and I quote “ If you do not know your history, then you are bound to repeat it”.

First of all I would have to say that we as an American people really shouldn’t want another stimulus check. The reason behind this is a very simple equation. The money needs to come from someplace, and quite honestly our government is already trillions in dept, though what most people don’t seem to put together is that the further in dept that our government goes the weaker our dollar becomes. I can remember just a few years ago when the American dollar was almost double the Canadian, now the Canadians dollar is stronger than ours. The reason behind this is simple we as a people “talking about Americans in general” are pretty friggen dumb. If there is something that we don’t want to face we just throw money at it and hope it goes away, if we don’t want to be around someone we lock them up away from everyone else, if we want something that is out of our miens we barrow money from someone else to get it. Personally my life currently sucks, I’m out of work, and have been for almost a year now. Though I can tell you this also I don’t have one bit of credit card dept. People need to stop complaining so much, and start looking for ways to solve the problem. Me personally I’ve used my time off work to build a micro hydro-electric damn and now run my home off of an artiesian spring in my back yard. I also planted a garden, and taught myself how to hunt with a bow, I can now pretty much live off the grid it I have to. This is the way I see most of America going, I’m just happy I live in northern Michigan where I have all these natural resources to live off from. For all you people in the big city you have my sympathy, and for the rest of you who live out in the sticks like me I wish you the best of luck. Industry as we know it is getting ready to fall, and quite honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if another “super power” of the world tried to move in and take this god forsaken country for there own.

It’s amazing how everyone speaks their mind and their view on what we as Americans deserve or should have. Everyone can think. But none of you can spell. That’s sad. Maybe we need a stimulus package that also offers higher education. Or lower maybe. Debt is a word I learned to spell in grade school. Anyway, there is a quote that says not in exact words something like this. “One must stop attributing our problems to our society and one again practice self responsibility.” To me, no matter how bad the economy gets or how many jobs are lost, my family will never wonder how they’ll eat tomorrow. We’re all a bunch of big crying babies and we don’t want to actually work. We’re spoonfed everything and as soon as something goes a little wrong we point fingers everywhere. For the disabled I do feel for. My greatest respect for you all. Because simply living everyday may be a struggle. Everyone else, stop crying, start working. Anywhere. Doing anything. We’re all gonna be alright.

I think us home owners with morgages should get enough money to pay off our homes and then while we are paying them off we are bailing out the morgage companies because they are getting paid in full by us for our homes. Because isn’t that why they are in trouble and need bailing out…cause people cant pay for thier homes they lent them money for? That way it helps them and us. Might as well kill two birds with one stone and do the same with our vehicles. Because if I didnt have a house pmt and a car pmt, I’d be setting pretty good financially and I would feel like I could spend more money and that would put it back in the economy.

I refuse to participate in the recession. What do you have to say to that? If you think things are bad, they will be bad. If you thnk things are good and will get better they will….LOA

All of these posts who are criticizing others for bad spelling are absolutely astounding. How can one criticize another persons spelling if they have bad grammar?

Kim,
I’m suprised that you don’t get section 8? It’s based on your income and you can go to a food pantry. There is plenty of options for you out there. I do find it hard to believe you don’t qualify for any programs? (something smells fishy????) I don’t think your rich because u get only 468.00 a month. 1) Your disabled – you will get food stamps
) Your disabled –you will get income based houseing. 3) your disabled — you can get/visit the food pantry in your area. 4) THERE’S PLENTY OF HELP FOR YOU!!! GET OFF THE COUTCH/COMPUTER AND LOOK AROUND. I think it’s funny when someone says there disabled and they can get on the computer and type away!!! I think there is a job that u could get to raise your income. Good luck!! Don’t mean to sound harsh but I’m tired of woes is me attitude. We all have issues and some are far more important that then listining to someone playing the system.

12 2009 Stimulus Check May 21, 2009 at 2:55 pm

There are alot of heated comments on this post. I wonder if people would be more calm if they all had received a stim check this year instead of just a rebate, or seen obama do something instead of handing out free checks to everyone.

13 Amanda May 24, 2009 at 11:18 pm

I believe that a second stimulas ckeck would help all americans. For the simple fact that everyone is getting behind on their own bills and most Americans are having to sell alot of their own stuff to be able to make their bills. I think that the 2nd stimulas check would at least give Americans a little help on catching up and for the one’s that have lost their job due to layoffs would give them a chance maybe not to loose their homes. Right now anything is better than nothing and I just believe it only can help.

14 Diane Martin May 29, 2009 at 9:24 pm

Yes. I would like to know if there will be a second stimulus check in 2009? I have been unemployed since Feb. , was a college student but had to drop because to seek employment.

15 Mike June 4, 2009 at 3:01 am

How come none of you guys mention working for a living? I mean rather than wait for a free ride why don’t you work for a living?

You need to get to work.

Ok i just wanted to say a few things. I moved from NJ to Alabama last year. It took me less than a month to get a job. Within 6 months the job i was at closed and laid off over 240 people. I was unemployed for 4 months. I couldnt even collect unemployment because i got the job thru a Temp Agency. I would love to go back to school but i have to work a full time job to survive. I finally got another job but it is temporary. I am just covering for someone while they are out and by the end of this month i will be unemployed again. I am 23 years old i cant attend school because i cant afford to not work something and i dont even know what to goto school for. I am so worried if i put so much time into school when i graduate there wont be a job in the field i am going for. In the state of Alabama their are THOUSANDS of people out of work.

I do understand that the money has to come from somewhere and the Government ( & the people ) are so in debt its almost impossible for them to even attempt to help us. But what about my generation who is experiencing job losses & pay decreases. I know so many people who have now lost their homes! They have families, children and are now homeless. Im thankful at the moment i dont have any children and i almost dont ever want to have a child because i dont want them to go thru what im going thru.

Well my conclusion for myself is i am going to attend school full time and work part time. Hopefully i can maintain my bills and not loose my home! Im not going to cry about it because that wont do anything but make me feel worse but what i will do is just keep positive when one door closes another one opens!!

& to the guy above me that says forest gump i have one thing to say about life

” Dear God please make me into a bird so i can fly far, far far away from here”

You can be wrong in so many things don’t let this be one of them. Just try to have a conversation with Him,you will see for yourself, give Him a chance to show you what He has planned in your life, for your life. He is amazing!!!Love in Christ

I think that the working people are entitled to another stimulus check. They bailed out all these big car industries, and are helping with mortgages, so why don’t the working people deserve a little help also. Now the people that aren’t working, maybe they should get a job. If the times are so tuff, stop crying and do something to improve your life. Don’t just think that getting free money is going to help you because when that money is gone then you will be in the same boat.

How about giving hard working families Stimulus Money instead of CEOS and upper management who used it for personal gain. After all is it not the hard working families who stir the economy!

out giving stimulus money to the hard working Ameriecan families

As a single sole parent the stimulus package that we got in 2008 really helped my children have a christmas if it wasnt for that stimulus package it would have been a very poor christmas and i dont think that these children not only mine every child should be left like that christmas is meant to be a happy time of the year for everyone but when you dont have the money its not happy it ends up being a poor christmas. It doesnt help with the prices of gifts childrens toys are at a high price i dont think people that have money think of those that dont im only on the pension and i find it very hard to get buy week by week so if this stimulus does go ahead with it would be a great help for many other familys and myself. Pease keven rudd help these children have a christmas

21 concernedparent October 19, 2009 at 10:38 am

I think we should be given another stimulus check before the end of November. With the economy the way it is, I will not be able to afford a christmas for my children. The money we received last year was a god send. I understand that we are receiving a tax break on our paychecks, but that just isn’t enough. There is enough money to give to the people who are on welfare and unemployment, but what about those of us who are single parents living with one income. I bust my butt working everyday to try and keep a roof over my kids heads. Banks and car dealerships are being bailed out. Why can’t I be bailed out also. Everything is going up except my paychecks.

22 another american citizen October 19, 2009 at 10:51 pm

The stimulus money should have been paid to every US citizen, not companies. If we believe in free markets and capitalism let it stand on its own bad investments should fail and the greedy people who invested take the loss, who is helping us. A bunch of wall street fat cats and executives who are overpaid were saved Yeah!

It is most unfortunate that people that need no help complain about the president’s healthcare bill, energy bill, etc. I have been gainfully enployed my adult life, and had multiple illnesses that has cost me lost of health insurance and I fall between the cracks for receiving any assistance for most of the programs in my state. I am uninsurable for these pre-existing health issues. I feel that the system has let people like me in similar conditions down. I paid taxes, am a citizen in good standing, and there is no help when I need it. I am losing my home, car, cannot afford the medicines I need to stay stable and perform a normal life as my health permits. This is not what I felt my country would allow to happen to its citizens. More money is spent on citizens not of this country than here at home. This is pitiful that banks, and car industries can get finacial help before its citizens.

This is for Look Up…Praise the Lord, someone who knows the Truth, Jesus Christ !!! If people would just look around them and see the beauty He has created, including themselves, they would know how much He loves them…When He sent His precious Son Jesus Christ to die for us, that was the greatest love that could ever be…People look up, be born again as Jesus says in John 3:3…Jesus is coming soon, get ready so you will not be left behind !!!

25 Carol Hvolboll November 19, 2009 at 5:13 pm

This is for all whom do not believe in a God that loves them and who created them…

If you notice here, Jesus is saying if you have known Him, you have known the Father also…I pray many will look up before its too late !!!

John 14:5-7…14:5 Thomas saith unto Him, Lord, we know not whither Thou goest; and how can we know the way? 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me. 14:7 If ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also: and from henceforth ye know Him, and have seen Him.
