Questrade Webcast With Frugal Trader and Jon Chevreau

by Mike on May 22, 2009

On Monday, May 25 at 2:00 pm there will be a live webcast sponsored by Questrade discount brokerage which features blogging superstars Frugal Trader of Million Dollar Journey and Jon Chevreau of the National Post.  If you want to read a more detailed description of the panel then here it is.  Michael Hainsworth of BNN will be the moderator.  Questrade has recently launched their new online trading academy so this is part of a promotion for the academy.

The discussion will be centered on investing and social media and will undoubtedly be worth listening too – I’ve never talked to Frugal Trader so I will be tuning in to check it out – I assume it will be available after the fact for listening.  Surprisingly enough I was invited to participate but regretfully had to decline (some of us have to work you know!).

I’m not really sure what social media and investing have in common (I’m guessing nothing) so it will be interesting to see what ideas they come up with.  I suspect they will spend most of the time talking about regular investing stuff and blogging since that seems more applicable to the panel participants.

You can register for this event here.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the mention. I’m not spending a lot of time in Toronto, but maybe we can meet for coffee or something. What part of Toronto do you live?

FT, I’ll send you an email.

Hi Four Pillars,

The thing that bugs me the most about BNN and Jon Chevreau is there is little talk about risk management. Examples are problems with disability insurance through work or some pitfalls of term insurance. In the end, what is more important saving some money on some trades or talking about protecting a more valuable asset…yourself. Since insurance is not sexy the main stream media does not talk about it and thats a shame. By picking up pennies in the middle of the road and not looking out for cars (risk management) are they not helping anybody.

To credit Million Dollar Journey, he has allowed me to bring this up in his Blog. As we get older, protecting our assets (ourselfs) becomes more important. For people who are incorporated this can be done with lower tax dollars.

Fascinating….. a real who’s who of the Canadian investment world :) I’m a huge BNN fan (nerd?). I will definitely be tuning in, thanks for mentioning this….

Well, if investors are blogging, and stocks are tweeting, (twitstocks), I guess that’s where the two domains crossover.

Well, watched the whole thing today… Frugal Trader did a good job. And four of my questions were featured! (For a couple of them Michael didn’t mention my name, because I had just tweeted them as comments, but he converted them into questions and used them to further the discussion). Pretty neat.
