The person I spoke with told me that they haven't heard anything about it, and as far as she was concerned, we were still going to get them!? There's documentation (AARP, etc.) all over the place that suggests COLA was not applicable for 2010 and already, possibly, 2011. Nor, and quite the opposite, do I sit on a 'high horse' looking down. While I am semi-retired, there has never been a cushion for me or my family.. There are no pension or savings or 401k resources. The key word in your statement is HELP. I agree there is obligation at local, state and federal levels to provide assistance to those in need. But the government structure we so proudly hail was not instituted to TAKE CARE of its citizens. Believe me, I truly recognize the flaws of politicians. It hasn't changed in 5,000 years! Many are greedy, self-serving, obstinate, insulated, oblivious, and all the rest of the human characteristics. Unfortunately, those with the 'good' traits ( you know: compassionate, sincere, dedicated, etc.) are not attracted to the political stage. I'll say it again, it is your obligation to yourself...to provide for yourself. If you're gonna depend on help, it may never come. By the way, our founding fathers thought it was a good idea to be leaders in the 'helping other countries' theory. Sure, I'd like to see more of the bucks stay here and be used to fund repair (and creation) of various US infrastructures, putting people and companies to work. Having been atheletic,and still continue to work very hard at a job,years later, and then one day have all of your vitality pulled out from under you...and be stuck in a wheel chair, trying to figure out just how to live off less then 800 a month !( Heck I made that much in two weeks before) so don't feed me the stuff about God and the bible, and that it's going to help me out of this situation. Am I bitter? You can bet your bippy I am ! I am not even 55 yet, and can't work anymore ! NADA, ZIP, nothing ! Now I have to spend my time wondering which bill can be paid, and which one might be able to wait, do I pay for meds or do I buy food. SO YES, Jess....I WAS really hoping for another stimulus check ! It sure would have helped alot ! And NO it wasn't going to be used for frivolous things !! Although they would be nice to have, I have to look at things logically. The only reason I even have a computer and internet, is because my son bought me the comp. and he pays for my internet. Your child should not have to be paying your bills for you, (thats the way I feel)but he is thoughtful, loving, and logical too, and as he said, at least it is my source to an outside world !
